It’s been fifty years since the passing of Ikuko Shimizu, who founded J. F. Oberlin University and Affiliated Schools together with her husband, Reverend Yasuzo Shimizu. She was struck by a cerebral hemorrhage and never regained consciousness, dying on June 24, 1964.

Ikuko Shimizu was the first principal of J. F. Oberlin Junior and Senior High Schools, and in the early years after World War II, she laid the foundations for some of J. F. Oberlin’s key educational precepts, including coeducation and having English taught by native speakers.

On this Foundation Day, two of Ikuko’s ex-students, Ms. Megumi Sakurai and Ms. Reiko Suzuki, will give lectures. Please come and learn about Ikuko Shimizu and the profound impact she had on this educational institution.
