A year has passed since typhoon number 26 caused a devastating landslide on Izu Oshima, but some areas have still not returned to normal. Professor Yasushi Shimojima’s seminar group, in the university’s College of Business Management, includes a native of Izu Oshima, and to help raise funds for reconstruction there, the group organized a children’s festival in May. Following on from that successful effort, on October 25 and 26 the group will operate a stall as part of “Halloween in Tama Center 2014.”
At the stall, corn soup made with Oshima milk will be served, and seminar group members will talk about their experiences and observations in the landslide zone. All donations and proceeds from the sale of soup will go toward the restoration of the affected area.
